Done deal? Former Everton and Stoke defender Ashley Williams spotted watching Derby County v Bristol City in Robins tracksuit

Bristol City appear to be on the verge of landing Wales captain Ashley Williams.

The free agent was caught on camera in discussions with Robins head coach Lee Johnson at Pride Park in the build-up to kick-off against Derby County on Tuesday evening.

However, he was hardly making a secret of the imminent deal as he donned a Bristol City tracksuit while he spoke with his likely new boss.

An image of the exchange has been circulated on social media.

Lee Johnson is keen to bolster his defensive options following the sales of Lloyd Kelly and Adam Webster, as well as the serious injury to club captain Bailey Wright.

Johnson would have had just three fit and recognised centre-backs until January  in Nathan Baker , Tomas Kalas and Taylor Moore, with the latter inexperienced and the former injury prone.

Williams, who turns 35 this week, left Everton in the summer after a difficult three seasons at Goodison Park but has been seeking a new club in England in order to prolong his Wales career.

He spent last season on loan at  Stoke in the Championship , making 37 appearances but the Potters declined to make that move into a permanent transfer.
