Doncaster crash: Three people killed after car hits pedestrians on Boxing Day

Three people have been killed and one man has been left fighting for his life after a car hit a group of pedestrians in Doncaster on Boxing Day.

Two women aged 53 and 54, and a 59-year-old man died from their injuries after they were hit by a blue Volvo S60 car at around 11pm on Saturday.

A fourth member of the group of pedestrians, a 56-year-old man, is being treated in hospital for life-threatening injuries.

The group had been walking along Sutton Road in Askern, Doncaster, when they were hit by the car on Saturday night, South Yorkshire Police said.

A 24-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and remained in police custody on Sunday morning.

The victims have not been formally identified and the families of those involved are being supported by specialist officers, police said.

Police are urging any witnesses to call 101 quoting incident number 968 of 26 December 2015.
