Doncaster and Curragh racing tips as Newsboy opposes St Leger favourite New London

HASKOY is fancied to defend her unbeaten record to land the final Classic of the 2022, the Cazoo St Leger (3.55), at Doncaster.

New London will go off a hot favourite to follow Charlie Appleby stablemate Hurricane Lane’s victory in the race 12 months ago. But Haskoy has come a long way in a short space of time under trainer Ralph Beckett’s guiding hand and will ensure the market leader does not have things all his own way.

Golden Horn’s daughter didn’t make the racecourse until the end of July this year, but her seven-length success in a 12-furlong Wolverhampton novice stakes promised much for the future.

Haskoy, supplemented for tomorrow at a cost of £50,000, followed up in York’s Listed Galtres Stakes with a last-gasp neck call over Time Lock and the step up to a mile and three-quarters should trigger another personal best.

Beckett and Haskoy’s jockey Frankie Dettori have strong claims of a big-race double courtesy of KINROSS in the Group 2 Cazoo Park Stakes (3.20).

There’s no profit in taking on TRUESHAN in the Group 2 Coral Doncaster Cup (2.45), while the same-level Coral Flying Childers Stakes (1.35) – also saved from Friday – is a good opportunity for TRILLIUM to continue her ascent through the ranks.

He came home a strong-finishing third from an 8lb higher mark last year, so COUNT D’ORSAY has plenty going for him in the Coral Portland Handicap (2.10).

At the Curragh, KYPRIOS is rightly a warm order to rack up a hat-trick of Group 1 triumphs in the Comer Group International Irish St Leger (4.10). Unbeaten in four visits to the track in 2022, Aidan O’Brien’s Galileo colt has lifted the top-tier Gold Cup at Royal Ascot and the Goodwood Cup on his last two starts and enjoys a class edge over his 10 opponents.

Ballydoyle representative AESOP’S FABLES and Ryan Moore are sure to take plenty of beating in the Group 1 Goffs Vincent O’Brien National Stakes (3.35). The No Nay Never juvenile followed a debut score at Navan in April with a two-and-a-quarter-length supremacy in the Group 2 Futurity Stakes over this course and distance 22 days ago, and there is plenty more where that came from.

O’Brien and Moore team up with market leader Meditate in the Group 1 Moyglare Stud Stakes (3.00), but the eye is drawn to TAHIYRA. It’s hardly trainer Dermot Weld’s modus operandi to go from a Galway maiden to the highest level, so the fact the master of Rosewell pitches Tahiyra in at the deep end is significant.

Moore still looks on for a treble, with ABOVE THE CURVE capable of flooring favourite La Petite Coco in the Group 2 Moyglare “Jewels” Blandford Stakes (1.50).

John Quinn has tutored HIGHFIELD PRINCESS from a basement British Horseracing Authority rating of 57 to scale the sprinting heights and another Group 1 prize, the Al Basti Equiworld, Dubai Flying Five Stakes (2.25), is there for the taking.
