Two Lanarkshire charities are each benefiting from £1000 donations from a local housebuilder.
St Andrew’s Hospice in Airdrie and East Kilbride-based charity LifeSavers Scotland are this year’s first recipients of support from Barrat Developments’ community fund.
Hospice fundraisers will put the money towards its urgent care appeal, launched in February to help funding its vital services after a hugely-impacted year in which the cancellation of events and closure of its shops resulted in a “terrible effect on finances”.
Trusts, legacy and individual giving manager Lorna McCafferty said: “On behalf of the patients and families we help to look after and support at St Andrew’s Hospice, I’d like to thank Barratt Homes West Scotland for their very kind and generous donation.”
LifeSavers Scotland supports NHS Lanarkshire during out-of-hours periods by transporting goods including medical records and blood samples between healthcare sites.
During the past year, its volunteers have also taken on the new task of transporting patients, running three vehicles which are available 24/7 to take people with suspected Covid-19 and who do not have transport to community assessment centres.
Barratt Developments West Scotland includes both Barratt Homes and David Wilson Homes, who have developments in Coatbridge, Motherwell, East Kilbride and Hamilton.
The company’s community fund, established three years ago, donates £1000 per month to a good cause in each of its three Scottish divisions which has been nominated and voted for by staff.
Finance director Suzanne Craven said: “St Andrew’s Hospice and LifeSavers Scotland carry out brilliant work supporting healthcare services and local families – we’re pleased to be able to help these charities and hope that our donations will allow them to continue to provide these crucial services.”
Charities can email charity.westscotland@barratthomes.co.uk to find out more about the community fund, which focuses on “organisations that improve the quality of life for those living in the area”.
