A Justgiving page has been set up in memory of Brian Davies, a 20 year old who was tragically killed in Prestonpans just five days before Christmas.
The family friend who set up the page confirmed to Edinburgh Live that the fund is to help his grieving family pay for funeral costs and other expenses at this difficult time.
Nearly £2000 has been donated against a £7000 target since the crowdfunding campaign was launched on 4 January.
As well as donations, well-wishers flooded the page with tributes to Brian.
One woman said: "Didn't know Brian but he is my son's friend...can only imagine your heartache...RIP handsome lad."
Another commented: "Kind hearted and genuine guy been my best friend since nursery, was like a brother to me he will be missed."
Someone else added: "One of the funniest dudes I know and will be dearly missed."

Brian's funeral will be held in Prestonpans, East Lothian on 24 January. The family have asked for donations to men's mental health charity CALM in his memory.
