Donald Woan dead: Former Liverpool striker passes away, aged 92

Former Liverpool forward Donald Woan has passed away at the age of 92, the club have confirmed.

Born in the city, Woan was signed from Bootle Athletic by manager George Kay in October 1950.

He was forced to wait until January 13, 1951 for his first-team debut, which saw him names in the starting XI for a 2-1 win at Derby County.

The outside-right kept his place for a Merseyside derby clash with Everton at Anfield the following week, but failed to make any further appearances at senior level for the club.

He made the switch to Leyton Orient later that year in a deal that saw fellow forward Brian Jackson move in the opposite direction.

Woan later represented Bradford City, Tranmere Rovers and Yeovil Town before hanging up his boots in 1957.
