Donald Trump Will Announce 2024 Presidential Bid Later This Month: Report

Former President Donald Trump is planning to announce his candidacy for the upcoming 2024 presidential election on Nov. 14, according to Axios, which spoke to sources familiar with the situation.

The official announcement could be followed by a multiday series of political events, the Friday report said.

What Happened: The former president and his team have been hinting at a 2024 campaign for weeks, according to Axios. Trump's political allies have been scheduling travel days in their calendars for the week following the midterm elections, which is a more obvious sign.

According to Axios, Trump has long intended to make the announcement soon after the midterm elections in a bid to gain an advantage over prospective challengers for the GOP candidacy in 2024, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis.

The Legal Backdrop: But, isn’t Trump being sued? Yes, and the Justice Department is well aware.

Officials from the Justice Department are debating whether a Trump candidacy would necessitate the appointment of a special prosecutor to lead two extensive criminal investigations into the former president, according to a CNN report.

The DoJ is increasing the number of experienced prosecutors working on its investigations so that it is prepared to make any judgments following the midterm elections, including indicting the former president, the report said.

CNN cited insiders with knowledge of the situation when reporting that the Department of Justice has discussed whether an indictment of the former president with a special prosecutor would shield it from claims that President Joe Biden's administration is pursuing his main political opponent.

More Trump News: The special purpose acquisition company that is bringing Trump's digital and social media platform public, Digital World Acquisition Corp. (NASDAQ:DWAC), has once again postponed its shareholder vote on whether to authorize a deadline extension to finalize the merger.

The original date for the vote was early September; the companies allege that the SEC's inquiry into the agreement caused the postponement. The vote is now scheduled for Nov. 22.

According to federal filings, the sponsor of the SPAC, ARC Global Investments, contributed nearly $2.9 million to extend the merger deadline until Dec. 8 after DWAC shareholders failed to complete a vote in September.

Shareholders have the chance to extend the deadline until Sept. 8, 2023, thanks to the vote prepared by DWAC management.

DWAC Price Action: Digital World Acquisition shares were trading 2.78% higher at $16.78 Friday morning.
