Donald Trump waxwork removed after museum visitors keep punching it in the face

A Donald Trump waxwork has had to be removed from a museum because people keep punching it in the face.

Louis Tussaud's Waxworks in San Antonio, Texas, confirmed the statue of the former US President is now in storage for its own protection.

It previously stood on display next to models of Russian leader Vladimir Putin and North Korean dictator Kim Jong-un.

Clay Stewart, regional manager for Ripley Entertainment, which owns the museum, said political figures - particularly US Presidents - have always been an issue.

“When it’s a highly political figure, attacks can be a problem," he said.

“We’ve always had trouble with the presidential section because no matter what president it was — Bush, Obama or Trump — they’ve all had people beat them."

He said the Trump waxwork was scratched and beaten so badly permanent deep marks were left on the face.

Previously, the George W. Bush figure had its nose punched in and Barack Obama has had six ear replacements.

“People are just aggressive about their political party,” he added to San Antonio Express-News..

Ripley's, which made three Trump figures in 2016 to be placed at its various sites, is currently working on a likeness for Joe Biden.

Ahead of last year's US presidential election, Madame Tussauds in Berlin put its Trump statue in a dumpster.

The Republican left office with low approval ratings following the January 6 attack on the US Capitol.

A Gallup survey conducted between January 4 and 15, showed only 34 percent of Americans thought he'd been a good president.
