Donald Trump waited 2 hours to congratulate the USWNT on its World Cup title

Megan Rapinoe was the undisputed star of the U.S. Women’s National Team’s second straight World Cup title. Rapinoe scored the opening goal in the USWNT’s win over Netherlands, won the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball.

Rapinoe also spoke openly on the team’s fight for equal pay, FIFA’s poor support for the women’s game and, oh, clashed with the president of the United States.

Earlier in the tournament, Rapinoe said that she would refuse an invitation to the White House and explained why she’s opted to not sing the national anthem or put her hand over her heart. When President Trump got word of the comments, he tweeted angrily at Rapinoe. When the USWNT won 2-0 on Sunday, there was radio silence from Trump.

It took two hours for Trump’s Twitter account to acknowledge that the U.S. women had won the World Cup.

By comparison, Melania Trump’s account tweeted a congratulatory message as the match ended. Former President Barack Obama also posted a timely message to the USWNT.

It was just Trump who waited two hours to congratulate the team.

The win in this feud clearly went to Rapinoe.

After all, the silence spoke volumes.
