Donald Trump utterly forgets he's met Michael Gove in brush-off to Tory MP

Donald Trump has utterly forgotten he met Michael Gove years ago after inviting the Tory leadership candidate for private talks.

The pair met last night at the US Ambassador's residence in London because Mr Gove is bidding for the Tory leadership.

But unlike his rivals Boris Johnson and Jeremy Hunt - who were also invited to meet the President - it seems poor old Mr Gove didn't leave a mark.

Before he rejoined the Cabinet, Tory MP Mr Gove interviewed the US President for The Times days ahead of his inauguration in 2017.

The first question of the interview was about Trump and Gove's shared Scottish heritage.

And it was published on the front page of a national newspaper making headlines across the nation.

Yet today Trump told Piers Morgan on ITV's Good Morning Britain: "I don't know him.

"I met him last night at the dinner for the first time.

"I thought he was very good."

Trump invited Boris Johnson for talks but the Tory frontrunner turned him down, settling for a 20-minute phone call instead.

He is also expected to hold private talks with Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt today in Portsmouth.

Trump said: "Boris is doing well, I think Jeremy is doing well, I don't know too many of them but those two I have a lot of respect for."

The President also invited Nigel Farage to his London hideaway last night for a chat about Brexit with the Brexit Party leader.

Yet he claimed it'd be "inappropriate" to meet Jeremy Corbyn and turned down the Labour leader's request.

He told GMB Britain is at "a very interesting moment in your country's history."

He added: "I was saying to the queen last night - the choice of your next Prime Minister is a very important choice, you really have to get it right."
