Donald Trump UK visit: The Queen gives special gifts to the President and First Lady

The Queen has presented visiting US President Donald Trump and First Lady Melania Trump with gifts during the couple's first official state visit.

The Queen gifted President Trump a first-edition abridged copy of Winston Churchill's book The Second World War.

The crimson 1959-published tome is gold-tooled with gilt-edged pages. It also features silk endpapers and hand-sewn flourishes in the colours of the US flag.

The wartime Prime Minister wrote a history of the period in a series of books, using his own notes and diaries to document his perspective of the tumultuous era.

It is customary for the Queen to present visiting heads of states with gifts on behalf of the Royal Family.

The Monarch also gifted the President with a three-piece obsidian pen set, which includes a fountain pen, rollerball pen and a ball point pen with 'EIIR cypher', in a presentation box.

The Queen gifted a specially-commissioned silver box with a handcrafted enamel lid to Melania Trump in the style of Buckingham Palace's Music Room ceiling pattern, also featuring the Queen's royal monogram.

It is described as featuring a "Guilloche pattern underneath soft opalescent crème enamel to reflect the colours of the room."

The Queen showed the Trumps the Royal Gift Collection, which includes historical artifacts from the United States.
