Donald Trump to visit Britain on day of EU referendum result

Donald Trump has announced plans to visit Britain on the day the results of the EU referendum will be announced.

The presumptive Republican nominee will attend the reopening of his Trump Turnberry golf course in Scotland on 24 June, the day after Britain votes for or against Brexit. Trump Turnberry Ailsa's golf course, which has played host to The Open Championship four times, has undergone a £200m restoration.

Scotland’s famous golf course is where he famously told journalists “the world has asked me to be here” after his last visit in July, where Mr Trump was seen impassively riding around in a golf buggy while sporting his red ‘Make America Great Again’ cap.

The billionaire business magnate also exuded confidence in his ability to clinch the Republican nomination, which seemed far-fetched at the time but proved to be startlingly prescient.

Mr Trump purchased the South Ayrshire resort in 2014. “Very exciting that one of the great resorts of the world, Turnberry, will be opening today after a massive £200m investment," he said.

“I own it and I am very proud of it. I look forward to attending the official opening of this great development on 24 June.”
