Boris Johnson and Donald Trump are “working great together”, the US President said today.
President Trump thanked the Prime Minister for fawning comments to US diplomats that were reported over the weekend.
The Prime Minister reportedly said Mr Trump was “making America great again” and doing “fantastic stuff” on foreign policy issues.
Leaked meeting notes, reported in the Sunday Telegraph, said Mr Johnson had told US diplomats Trump was “increasingly popular” in the UK.
At one point, he’s quoted as saying: “America is back under Trump”.
In another note, he’s reported to have said he and President Trump would “solve problems together”, adding: “The president is making America great again."
And this morning, President Trump retweeted the Telegraph’s story, adding: “Thank you Boris, working great together!”
In a string of tweets posted by the US President, he also branded the forthcoming Presidential election “rigged”, the media “corrupt” and Black Lives Matter protesters “thugs.”
Number 10 did not deny that the Prime Minister’s quotes were accurate.
A spokesman said on Sunday: “The Prime Minister is committed to the extremely important relationship between the UK and US and to enhancing the work we do together to ensure the prosperity and security of our citizens."
