Donald Trump 'set for second state visit to UK in first week of June'

Donald Trump is reportedly set to make a state visit to the UK in the first week of June.

Sky News reported the trip could be announced by the White House as early as today.

The US president will meet the Queen at Buckingham Palace before a trip to France as part of 75th anniversary commemorations for the D-Day landings, reports say.

His previous state visit, in July last year, saw hundreds of thousands of protesters pour onto the streets of central London as they expressed fury about the controversial president being given an official welcome.

Campaign group Stop Trump said there were 250,000 people taking part in its march from Portland Place to Trafalgar Square.

Campaigners also crowdfunded a baby balloon depicting Mr Trump in a nappy.

Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn was among those who spoke at a rally condemning the state visit.

The president, however, shied away from the capital, meeting the Queen at Windsor Castle and going on a golfing trip to Scotland.
