Donald Trump says Joe Biden is 'lucky' the Attorney General hasn't locked him up

Donald Trump says Joe Biden is "lucky" the US Attorney General is so "nice" because otherwise he'd have been locked up.

The US President's rallies have long been peppered by chants of "lock him up" - a call back to Trump's threats to imprison his previous opponent, Hilary Clinton.

But President Trump has previously held back from personally calling for Biden to be jailed, often simply smiling as his supporters demand it.

But today during a speech in Arizona, Trump said: "He is lucky that we have in our country, a wonderful human being and the most fair Attorney General of the United States, because I know people who would have had him locked up five weeks ago."

He said Attorney General (AG) Bill Barr was "a very nice man and a very fair man and they have no idea, because somebody would have taken that thing, and all the crap and corruption, he's been a corrupt politician for a long time, this guy."

He provided no evidence for his claim that Biden is "corrupt."

He went on to suggest he was displeased that his AG had not taken action against the former Vice President.

He said: "In many ways it doesn't make some of us happy, but in many ways Bill Barr is a wonderful human being and a very fair person, and he's not a person that wants to hurt people.

"Just remember that. I say it and I say it once. Just remember it. Because I get angry too. But just remember it because he's a very fair man. And in many ways and especially in that position, there's something very nice about it."

Earlier in his speech, he accused TV news of overplaying the risk of Covid-19 to "talk people out of voting".

Speaking at a rally in Arizona, the President of the United States branded news network CNN "dumb b*****ds."

And he repeated his claim that the virus was "rounding the corner" and would soon disappear.

He said: "[People] are getting tired of the pandemic, aren't they?

"You turn on CNN, that's all they cover. 'Covid, Covid, Pandemic, Covid, Covid.'

"You know why? They're trying to talk everybody out of voting."

He added: "People aren't buying it, CNN, you dumb b*****ds."
