Donald Trump has said he won't bring back his controversial child separation policy at the US-Mexico border.
The US President told reporters he was not looking to bring back the practice that saw some 2,500 children separated from their families last spring.
The controversial policy was eventually reversed after causing international outrage.
But in confirming the policy decision today, Trump repeated an earlier claim that predecessor Barack Obama's administration also separated families.
Speaking to reporters he added that "cages" pictured were built by the Democrat.

"President Obama separated children. They had child separation. I was the one who that changed it," he said according to CNN .
He added: "Those cages that were shown -- I think they were very inappropriate -- they were built by President Obama's administration, not by Trump."
The president said that ending the 'zero tolerance' policy had led to an increase in illegal immigration.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced in April 2018 that the Justice Department would prosecute 100% of illegal border crossings.
This meant that while adults went to jail to await criminal proceedings, children went to detention centres.

Trump made the comments while meeting with the Egyptian president at the White House.
