Donald Trump says he will 'strongly consider' testifying in impeachment probe... adding he 'likes the idea' of it

Donald Trump has said he will "strongly consider" testifying during the impeachment probe into his presidency after being invited by long-term adversary Nancy Pelosi.

The Democratic House Speaker used a television interview over the weekend to extend the offer of an appearance to the US President.

She told CBS' Face the Nation: "If he has information that is exculpatory, that means ex, taking away, culpable, blame, then we look forward to seeing it."

Ms Pelosi added he could "come right before the committee and talk, speak all the truth that he wants if he wants".

Responding to the offer he branded the hearing "the phony impeachment witch hunt".

Though Mr Trump said he does not "like giving credibility to this No Due Process Hoax", he said he could be minded to take part despite insisting he "did nothing wrong".

He tweeted: "I like the idea & will, in order to get Congress focused again, strongly consider it!"

Eight more witnesses are due to testify in the second week the televised hearings, including Gordon Sondland, the US ambassador to the European Union.

His direct interactions with Mr Trump are likely to be a main focus in the investigation of whether the president made security aid to Ukraine contingent on it agreeing to dig up dirt on a political rival, former Vice President Joe Biden.

These latest round of hearings will stretch from Tuesday to Thursday before the House of Representatives Intelligence Committee.
