The US President tested positive for the virus on Thursday before leaving the White House on Friday evening to attend the Walter Reed National Military Medical Centre

He went to hospital after being injected with an experimental antibody cocktail but it was said to be just precautionary.

Mr Trump tweeted the news on Monday evening (UK time) and told his followers not to "be afraid" of Covid-19.

He said: "I will be leaving the great Walter Reed Medical Center today at 6:30 P.M.

"Feeling really good! Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life. We have developed, under the Trump Administration, some really great drugs & knowledge.

"I feel better than I did 20 years ago!"

Mr Trump and his wife, First Lady Melania Trump, announced they both tested positive for Covid-19 on Thursday.

Melania Trump remained at the White House to recover from her own bout with the virus which is said to be mild.
