Donald Trump's son in law Jared Kushner 'urges him to concede'

Jared Kushner, President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior advisor, has approached the President about conceding the election, according to two sources that have spoken to CNN.

The move came following Trump's assertion in a statement from his campaign that Biden is "rushing to falsely pose as the winner" and that the race is "far from over".

Trump spoke just moments after CNN projected that the now President-elect Joe Biden will become the 46th president of the United States.

Biden was declared as winner of the election by news agencies around the world just after 4pm GMT on Saturday (November 7).

The Democrat went over the 270 electoral votes needed when Pennsylvania was called in his favour.

But Trump said in a statement: "I will not rest until the American People have the honest vote count they deserve and that Democracy demands."

The statement also revealed that the campaign's legal battle will begin on Monday..

Biden-Harris deputy campaign manager Kate Bedingfield said on Saturday night, as CNN has reported, that there has been no communication between Biden and Trump, or between any representatives from either campaign, since the race was called earlier in the day.

Shortly before 10pm GMT yesterday, in an all-caps tweet, Trump repeated unfounded claims of election fraud and wrongly claimed he had won the US Presidential election.

Meanwhile celebrations broke out across America, with people seen dancing in the streets outside the White House, in Philadelphia and in apartment blocks across Manhattan, as Biden was declared the winner.
