Donald Trump's personal assistant 'steps down over leaks about his private life'

Donald Trump's personal assistant has reportedly stepped down after the US President found out she had leaked information to the press.

Madeleine Westerhout, whose desk sits outside the Oval Office, resigned yesterday over sharing details about Trump's schedule and family, according to the New York Times.

Ms Westerhout, who was promoted to director of Oval Office Operations this year, reportedly disclosed the information during a recent off-the-record dinner with reporters.

The staffer described the leak of the President's schedule earlier this year as a 'disgraceful breach of trust', according to the Washington Times.

More than fifty staff members have exited Trump's orbit since he became president:

Some departures have been controversial, like Trump's sacking of FBI director James Comey - who was leading the Russia investigation.

Others have been quick, like communications director Anthony Scaramucci, who was given the boot after just ten days.
