Donald Trump's Menie Estate golf course loses more than £1m for seventh year running

One of ’s Scottish golf resorts has made a loss of more than £1million for the seventh year in a row.

The figures are revealed in accounts filed at Companies House for the US president’s Estate course in Aberdeenshire.

The Trump International Golf Links, which Trump opened in 2012, following a battle with environmental campaigners, has made a loss every year since.

It made a loss of £1,072,831 for 2018, compared to losses of £1,255,836 in 2017, £1,405,308 in 2016, £1,096,108 in 2015,£1,139,513 in 2014, £1.8million in 2013 and £1.7million in 2012.

The resort, which is valued at £31.8million, saw its turnover increase from £2.55million in 2017 to £2.76million.

Trump’s representatives initially said they would spend up to £1billion on the development and pledged to create 800 jobs.

The business employed 77 people people in its seventh year of operations, who were paid a total of £1.85million.

Trump’s other Scots golf resort, at , Ayrshire, made a loss of £3.38million for 2017. Its results for 2018 have not yet been published.

Despite the loss, the Trump Organisation said it remains positive about the future of his Scots investments.

In his director report for Trump International Golf Links, the Trump’s son Eric said: “Trump International continues to soar in the world golf rankings and plays an important part in the global Trump portfolio. Despite the challenging economic climate and market conditions, the property has increased revenues by nine per cent.

“Along with the increase in revenues, we have continued to control costs which has contributed to an 18 per cent reduction in operating loss before depreciation.

“Trump International’s reputation and status with tour operators and agents across Europe, America and further afield continues to expand as its services and products evolve. This trend will continue and further capital investments are planned.”

Plans for a second golf course and 550 homes on the Menie Estate were last month.

Branded The Trump Estate, the plans feature a range of properties from cottages to larger homes costing more than £1million.

Eric Trump said public reaction to the plan had been positive despite it attracting almost 3000 objections.

Trump, 73, resigned as a director from the golf businesses after being elected as president and handed over his controlling stake to a trust run by his family and legal adviser Allen Weisselberg.

US congressmen have begun a probe into claims the president is profiting from military use of Turnberry.

The Trump administration has faced allegations of corruption since it was revealed that US Air Force personnel stayed at the Ayrshire course during stopovers to refuel at nearby Prestwick airport.
