Donald Trump's doctor refuses to say if President needed oxygen at any point

Donald Trump is 'doing very well' as he battles coronavirus in hospital and is not receiving oxygen today, according to a press briefing.

However presidential physician Dr Sean Conley refused to comment if he had been given oxygen during his treatment - despite repeated questioning by US media.

He said: "This morning the president is doing very well" and added that he was 'pleased with his progress'.

He added the President said he was walking around, still working and is in 'exceptionally good spirits'.

However after the statement an anonymous official told US media that the president's vitals over last 24 hours were 'very concerning' and that 'next 48 hours are critical'.

When asked "Has [Trump] EVER been on supplemental oxygen?", Dr Conley replied he was not on it "yesterday or today" while at Walter Reed Medical Center.

Dr Conley's timeframe of Trump's illness - he spoke of 'the last 72 hours' - has quickly sparked speculation the president may have been diagnosed earlier than originally thought.

The world was shocked when the President of the United States confirmed both he and his wife Melania had tested positive for Covid-19.

And yesterday the 74-year-old was hospitalized while suffering from 'mild' symptoms.

Sources close to Trump told US media on Friday that the President was 'very fatigued' and 'struggling to breathe'.

Today ABC News reports that the president is still not considering any transition of power to Vice President Mike Pence. They added he is not having difficulty breathing, despite a shortness of breath.

He is being treated with remdesivir, previously used to treat Ebola, which has been shown to help the symptoms of the virus.

Trump's advanced age and obesity put him in the 'high risk' category for the virus.

Vice President Mike Pence will host a 'Make America Great Again' campaign event in Arizona on Thursday. He tested negative this morning once again.

The decision to host a large-scale campaign rally days after the Republican leader tested positive for the deadly bug is likely to face fierce criticism.

Meanwhile three Republican senators have tested positive for coronavirus - a development that means the Senate may struggle to push through the nomination of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court.

Also infected are White House advisor Kellyanne Conway, Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien and former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie.

Trump has spent much of the pandemic downplaying the risk of the virus, sending mixed messages on wearing masks and calling for the US economy to reopen.

The day he tested positive he had said "the end of the pandemic is in sight," in a campaign appearance at the Al Smith Dinner in New York.

Now the bitter US election has become even more chaotic. It is not known when Trump will be able to return to a campaigning at all.

There is no legal avenue for the November election against Democrat Joe Biden - held in 31 days - to be postponed with voting already underway in many states.

Biden, 77, has tested negative.
