Donald Trump returns to Twitter after video furore

Donald Trump has issued his first tweet since the unprecedented backlash over lewd comments he made, beginning his day with something of an understatement.

On Friday, remarks about groping women finally come back to haunt the man currently vying to become the next President of the United States after being unearthed by the Washington Post.

“I better use some Tic Tacs just in case I start kissing her," he was heard telling Billy Bush on Access Hollywood in 2005. "You know I’m automatically attracted to beautiful - I just start kissing them. It’s like a magnet. Just kiss. I don’t even wait. When you’re a star they’ll let you do it, you can do anything. Grab ‘em by the p****. You can do anything.”

Severe condemnation has come from all corners and an unusually contrite statement from Mr Trump did little to quell the mounting anger. Some have questioned whether these remarks could spell the downfall of his White House bid.

But how much this speculation concerns Mr Trump remains unclear after he returned to Twitter eleven hours later with a keen - and much more characteristic - observation about the furore.

“I've said and done things I regret, and the words released today in a decade-old video are one of them,” Mr Trump in a taped apology issued after the audio was published. “Anyone who knows me knows these words don't reflect who I am. I said it, I was wrong, and I apologise.”
