Donald Trump returns to Instagram with bizarre Liberty Bell picture

Donald Trump has posted on Instagram for the first time in over two years with a mocked up picture of him holding a Liberty Bell.

The former president made his return to the platform to pitch a new series of collectible digital cards bearing his hallmark.

The NFTs can be traded in the same way that generations of Americans have swapped, bought and sold baseball cards and every one is unique. The image on Instagram depicts Mr Trump with the symbol of the US, the Liberty Bell.

He wrote next to the bizarre image: “I am pleased to inform you that, due to the great success of my previously launched DIGITAL TRADING CARDS, we are doing it again, SERIES 2, AVAILABLE RIGHT NOW.”

He had braced his followers for a “major announcement” which turned out to be $99 (£81) digital trading cards of him looking like a superhero.

He had previously sold digital trading cards of him in December in a bid to drum up funding for his leadership campaign.

He said of the cards last year: “My official Donald Trump Digital Trading Card collection is here! These limited edition cards feature amazing ART of my Life & Career! Collect all of your favourite Trump Digital Trading Cards, very much like a baseball card, but hopefully much more exciting.”
