Donald Trump responds to Rory McIlroy taunting him over Europe's sensational Ryder Cup win

Team Europe playfully taunted US President Donald Trump after their dramatic victory over the USA to claim the Ryder Cup.

Video footage emerged of Rory McIlroy and the European team holding the trophy in their locker room as they chanted: ‘Are you watching, are you watching Donald Trump?’

The US President, who is a golf fan himself and made a high-profile appearance on day one at the course outside of Manhattan, responded gracefully to the taunt.

He reposted the video on his Truth Social account and captioned it: 'Yes, I'm watching. Congratulations!'

The host side, who were trailing by seven points heading into Sunday’s singles session, made a dramatic comeback, but were eventually beaten 15-13 by Europe at Bethpage Black.

Shane Lowry delivered the crucial half-point that took Europe to an unassailable 14 when he secured a draw in match number eight by holing a winning putt on the 18th.

Tyrrell Hatton then added another half in match number 10 to ensure an outright victory.

Ludvig Aberg claimed Europe's only singles win and a further half came from Robert MacIntyre to make the final score 15-13.

That the contest became so close was a testament to the remarkable individual talent in the US ranks and a fighting spirit there had been little evidence of over the first two days.

President Trump arrived to watch the Ryder Cup on day one at Bethpage Black with his granddaughter Kai.

He arrived at approximately 11am and leaving shortly after 2.30pm local time.

He waved to the crowds, with some supporters chanting his name along with ‘U-S-A’ while a number of other booed.

The recent killing of Conservative activist Charlie Kirk meant security was on high alert for President Trump during his visit.

New York State Police told the BBC that around 500 law enforcement officers were present, but “no incidents” occurred.

SWAT teams, including snipers, bomb disposal units and canine units, joined police officers from several local Long Island forces.
