Donald Trump posts bizarre AI video of himself promising magical ‘medbeds’ for Americans, forced to delete it

Anyone who regularly deals with confused boomer grandparents will likely have watched them completely believe in obviously AI-generated videos. The best solution is to nod and smile politely as they show you yet another fake video of a brave dog rescuing a screaming baby from a river, or a deepfaked Elon Musk promising to give out his riches.

As he approaches his 80th birthday, Donald Trump is squarely in the confused boomer demographic. But even with all we know about his sagging rat’s nest of a brain, we didn’t expect him to be fooled by an AI-generated video of… himself?

Yup, in today’s edition of “too crazy for satire”, Trump saw a faked video of himself promising magical “medbeds” to Americans, apparently believed he’d said it, and reposted it to his followers. Presumably, some aide saw this and realized that even by Trump standards this looks bad and promptly deleted it, perhaps muttering, “okay, time for bed Grandpa…”

The video sees a faked Trump speech (and not even a particularly convincing fake) in which he announces a “National Medbed card for every citizen”:

“Every American will soon receive their own Medbed card. With it, you’ll have guaranteed access to our new hospitals, led by the top doctors in the nation, equipped with the most advanced technology in the world. These facilities are safe, modern, and designed to restore every citizen to full health and strength.”

These “Medbeds” are a bizarre far-right conspiracy that claims that billionaires have access to high-tech beds that can cure any health problem, and are intentionally keeping them a secret from regular people. Unfortunately, Medbeds do not exist – they are science fiction.

Wouldn’t it be nice…

The depressing and ironic twist is that if this announcement were real, it would amount to Trump unveiling national government-funded healthcare for all Americans. Y’know, the same privilege the rest of the developed world takes for granted.

But, of course, the reality is that Trump is firing a bazooka at the nation’s healthcare system. He’s already broken his campaign promise not to cut Medicare and Medicaid and is perfectly content for regular people to be saddled with crushing medical debt as hospitals shut their doors.

Frankly, we wish we lived in the fake Medbed universe. But we don’t: we have to live in the dystopian healthcare nightmare Donald Trump is eager to perpetuate.
