Former Labor leader Mark Latham has thrown his weight behind the Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. In Sydney’s Daily Telegraph, Latham acknowledged that Trump was “by no means perfect”, but said his foreign policy was in Australia’s national interest: “I much prefer his approach to the lying snakes of machine politics and media manipulation.”
Latham is by no means perfect, either – just one of the traits he has in common with his preferred candidate. It might seem an unlikely endorsement, but the two are both controversial contrarians with a talent for making headlines with their inflammatory, sometimes mind-boggling statements. The question is: can you tell them apart?
