Donald Trump not coming to Scotland this month insist Prestwick Airport bosses

Bosses at Prestwick Airport say they are NOT expecting a visit from Donald Trump later this month.

The outgoing US President has been linked with a trip to his Turnberry golf resort to coincide with the inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden.

The speculation prompted First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, to insist Trump would not be allowed into Scotland to play golf.

It was reported at the weekend that Prestwick Airport had been primed to take a US plane sometimes used by Trump on the day before Biden enters the White House.

But a spokesperson for the airport said tonight: “We can confirm that we are not expecting a visit from Donald Trump in January.”

It follows the earlier warning from Ms Sturgeon that Trump would have to abide by coronavirus restrictions like everyone else.

She said: "I hope and expect the travel plan he immediately has is to exit the White House - beyond that, I don't know.

"We are not allowing people to come into Scotland without an essential purpose right now, and that would apply to him just as it applies to anybody else.

"Coming to play golf is not what I consider to be an essential purpose."
