Donald Trump makes Melania prediction after rumours of relationship demise and 'bitterness' since leaving White House

Donald Trump has referred to his wife Melania as "the future First Lady" as he hinted at another presidential run in 2024.

The disgraced former President was speaking for the first time since leaving office in January, where he bizarrely bragged about his "successful journey" over the past four years.

Speaking at the Conservative Political Action Conference, he again repeated the false claim that the Democratic Party stole the election in November.

In a speech that began more than an hour late, Trump told the crowd he has no plans to start his own political party, and he called for the end of school closures during the Covid-19 pandemic.

He also reiterated that Melania would be by his side if he takes back the White House in 2024.

He also told supporters that the former First Lady says hello, and that she "loves you as much as I love you".

Despite Trump's claims, there have been growing rumours surrounding his marriage in recent months.

An insider recently claimed that Melania has been "bitter and chilly" toward her shamed husband - and barely spends any time with him after leaving the White House.

According to the claims, the couple spend most of their days apart at Donald's Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida as rumours continue to swirl that they are close to divorce.

Another explosive claim stated that Melania Trump was "counting down the minutes" to leave the White House so she could divorce her disgraced husband.

In 2018, former Trump aide and The Apprentice contestant Omarosa Manigault-Newman, who wrote a book Unhinged, claimed Melania was eager to divorce the president.

She claimed: “In my opinion, Melania is counting every minute until he is out of office and she can divorce him.”

She added at the time: "If Melania were to try to pull the ultimate humiliation and leave while he's in office, he would find a way to punish her."

During his speech, Trump repeated several lies he touted during his time in Washington and was cheered as he gave transphobic remarks while discussing transgender women competing in women's sport.

He pandered to racists, xenophobes and conspiracy theorists as he gave fact-checkers plenty to work with.

Very few in the audience were wearing face masks and there was a lack of social distancing despite the fact that coronavirus has infected 29 million people in the US and killed more than 500,000.

Trump, widely condemned for his disastrous handling of the pandemic, was by far the attendees' first choice for the Republican nomination in 2024.

He received 55 per cent of the votes in a straw poll.

It is said the property tycoon, who has gone back to living at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida with his wife Melania and their 14-year-old son Barron, has held private talks about running for president in 2024.

He still has strong support amongst conservatives in the US despite his poor handling of America's coronavirus crisis, inciting of the Capitol riot that left a police officer and four other people dead, and other embarrassments or controversies during his one and only term as president.

After losing November's presidential election to his Democratic rival Biden, Trump spewed false claims of election fraud that sent his supporters into a frenzy and led to last month's insurrection.

Trump became the only president to be impeached twice - the second time on a charge of inciting the riot - and was again found not guilty thanks to Republican allies who toed party lines and backed him.

Those lawmakers were denounced as "cowards" following the trial in February.

Seven Republican senators voted to convict Trump over the riot.

A civil war has erupted within the Republican Party as some senior officials continue to court Trump's conservative base.

Trump's supporters include white supremacists and far-right extremists.

The Biden administration said it planned to ignore Trump's speech.

Since taking office, Biden, 78, has undone many of Trump's controversial policies on immigration and climate change and boosted the federal response to America's Covid crisis, which was the worst in the world under the Trump administration.
