In another attempt at legitimising the deployment of troops in Chicago, Donald Trump is claiming that the people of the city love him. However, those residing there are saying and believe otherwise.
During a recent press conference, the United States President claimed that Chicagoans, especially the “beautiful black” women, are donning “MAGA hats” and walking across the city’s roads. While putting words into their mouths, Trump claimed that these women were requesting their authorities to allow him to take care of matters in Chicago, referring to his repeated efforts at deploying troops and the National Guard there, which were being shot down. Trump also spoke of the “crime’ happening in the city, which needs to be stopped, noting that if he were allowed to intervene, his efforts would achieve the same level of success as they did in Washington, DC. By success, he means dragging people out of their homes, arresting and deporting them, by the way.
As the video of Donald Trump making these baseless assertions started gaining traction on social media, many called him out. On X (previously Twitter), the discussions were particularly tense as Chicagoans started hurling insults at him. One person highlighted the nature of his lies and wrote:
“Um, I live here, I’m out and about this city all the time, and I have yet to see one person wearing a MAGA hat. I see a lot of anti-Trump signs and apparel though.”
Another one backed up the individual’s comments and noted:
“Exactly. I have been to literally every part of the city in the last six months. Even for the neighborhoods where there ARE MAGA scum about, no lawn or window signs. I’ve seen literally one Trump hat in the entire collar county area. I was downstate for an event. Not THERE even.”
As tensions in the United States rise with a government shutdown and thousands of workers furloughed, it seems the President has found a hobby to keep him occupied despite repeated pushback. Obviously, it comes at the cost of other individuals he cannot tolerate.
