Donald Trump has been slammed by former Aston Villa midfielder and current USA star Michael Bradley, who labelled the president "completely empty".
America has been awash with violent protests and shocking scenes over the last fortnight following the controversial death of civilian George Floyd in police custody.
Demonstrators have been at loggerheads with police officers across the country as they protest in support of the Black Lives Matter movement.
Trump has been criticised for his response to the events, and has now had his leadership called into question by the captain of the nation's soccer team.
"We have a president who is completely empty. There isn’t a moral bone in his body," Bradley said on a media conference call.
"There’s no leadership. There’s no leadership from the president, there’s no leadership from the Republican senators who have sat back and been totally complicit in everything he’s done for the last three and a half years."
Floyd's death in Minneapolis has horrified the world after a video emerged of police officer Derek Chauvin kneeling on his neck for more than eight minutes whilst arresting him.
After pleading multiple times he couldn't breathe, Floyd eventually passed out at the scene and later died in hospital.
Chauvin has since been charged with third-degree murder and manslaughter, from an incident whereby Floyd was originally being arrested for allegedly attempting to use a counterfeit $20 note.
It was the latest high-profile death of an African American in controversial circumstances in the States, and Bradley feels more must be done to illicit positive change.
"I’m angry, I’m horrified, I’m sad and I’m determined to do anything and everything I can to try to be a part of the fix," he said. "Because it has to end. And we all have to be part of that fix."
Bradley added: "If we want any chance to start to fix those things, then Trump can’t be president, it’s as simple as that."
