Donald Trump was bragging again about his impressive cognitive tests — this time at a cabinet meeting, where he claimed that other presidents before him were allegedly afraid of the tests. Naturally, that prompted people to be curious about what the cognitive test actually entails.
The cognitive test that Trump took is called the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA). There’s clearly a reason why his doctors would believe he needed such a test — the impromptu MRIs and the dozing off during meetings would be an indicator. There’s also the very real concern that his advanced age might be affecting how he carries himself and, more importantly, how he makes decisions.
The MoCA is a basic 10-minute screening tool that is described as “basic” by multiple medical sites. It’s used to detect mild cognitive impairments using methods like word recall and clock drawing. With Trump’s latest self-aggrandising session during a cabinet meeting, some clipped that particular section — and a lot of social media users decided to post screenshots of just how simple a cognitive test actually is. While Trump makes it sound like a complex IQ test, what MoCA really does is ask you to connect the alphabet in order or differentiate between animals like horses, lions, cows, and camels.

On X, the reaction to Trump’s latest claims was quite facetious — almost to hide from the grave realities that MAGA itself wasn’t too shy about discussing when it was Joe Biden’s turn. One user said that Trump asking if the cognitive test was hard was a tell-tale sign by itself. Another user found it hilarious that Trump turned a routine test into a heroic saga. One user even turned the situation into a more serious affair by reminding everyone that a medical assessment is not a trophy you can show off.
Trump asking if a cognitive test is hard is the funniest line yet.

Classic Trump ,turns a routine test into a heroic saga. I aced it, nobody's ever done it before, the man never misses a chance to top his own punchlines.

No president has ever lined up for one because cognitive exams aren’t meant to be some public spectacle. They’re medical assessments, not trophies to show off.

As Trump’s cognitive abilities are being questioned by the staff closest to him, he’s still showing off his presidential portraits — where he very classlessly replaced Biden’s portrait with an autopen — to the Saudi crown. What makes that particular event so disturbing is the irony dressed around it. The Saudi Crown Prince has been accused of many things, but chief among them is how he allegedly attacked journalists who dare critique his regime. So now, Trump is showing open hostility to reporters every week for questioning his health while he celebrates with the one person who probably wouldn’t take it, showing off how the only problem he has with the media is when they question his health, not when they question the health of the president per se.
Trump’s mental acuity and age are not a recent thing. Even during his candidature against Biden — both times — people were asking whether both leaders were past their prime. The voters decided that they were not. Each time, for both. But that doesn’t mean the questions will end. And — more importantly — that doesn’t mean the tests will end.
A hawk eye will continue to follow him, and as long as he keeps passing these “basic” tests, then people will remain calm.
