Donald Trump Jr has hinted at a possible future bid for political office, telling a radio programme this week, “I never want to rule it out.”
The eldest son of Donald Trump and an executive to his father’s Trump Organisation, Mr Trump Jr said Wednesday on Bloomberg Radio about launching a political campaign, “We have a lot of time ... My father decided to get into politics at 68.”
“I’m 41, I’ve got plenty of time,” he added.
The eldest first son has become an influential voice among the Republican Party’s conservative faction and often posts right-wing content to his ever-growing following of Trump loyalists and supporters of his father’s presidency.
“I definitely enjoy the fight,” he said Wednesday. “I definitely like being out there and I love being able to see the impact and the difference that it makes on these people’s lives that I get to see all over the country.”
Talk of Mr Trump Jr running for office has grown ever since he’s hit the campaign trail for his father’s re-election, bringing along his girlfriend, former Fox News host Kimberly Guilfoyle, and touting the White House administration’s America First agenda.
He’s received praise from the likes of Brian Kilmeade, a co-host of the Fox News morning show Fox & Friends, who said after interviewing the first son in February that he would have a “great political future” if he were ever to run for office.
“Clearly he’d have a great political future should he ever run,” he said.
He’s also reportedly told members of an elite gun club that he was considering launching a gubernatorial campaign in New York.
“It's not something I'm doing now,” he told the Associated Press about a campaign in November last year.
“But you never know, it's fascinating stuff,” he added.
Mr Trump Jr also said Wednesday “there was some relief” among the Trump family’s inner circle after Attorney General William Barr reported there were no further indictments from the conclusion of Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election.
