RFK is in the news for more than the Olivia Nuzzi scandal this week. President Donald Trump was talking in front of a McDonald’s franchise owners meeting this week. And, he shared a “secret” about the Health and Human Services Secretary. Apparently, Trump persuaded Robert F. Kennedy Jr. to eat a Big Mac from the fast food establishment. The President just volunteered that information in front of all these franchisees.
Trump would also argue that he’s one of McDonald’s “all-time most loyal customers.” The comments coincided with him revealing that he thinks that they served McDonald’s on almost every trip in his campaign plane. Those details seem to match up with a lot of the photos from both of his presidential terms. Still, it’s an interesting window into what’s going on with the politician’s brain when he’s giving these prepared remarks to a collection of businesspeople. Here are some other quotes from the speech:
“You fed us very well, and I even got Bobby Kennedy to eat a Big Mac,” the President told the collection of McDonald’s owners. “He told me he loved it.”
“Other politicians fly around on campaign planes stocked with expensive catering,” Trump continued. “When Trump Force One — prior to ascending to Air Force One — flew during the campaign, we served only McDonald’s almost every time. On occasion, we couldn’t find one, which is pretty hard to believe, but we really did.”
Did RFK eat a Big Mac?

While we can’t confirm for sure, we do have the President’s comments to go off of. This moment of Mcdonald’s weakness would be a sharp turn from Kennedy Jr.’s stated policy plans for the rest of the country. The Health and Human Services Secretary Is the head of the table for the Make America Healthy Again movement. That entire wing of the government has come under fire recently because of different policy stances being rearranged after earlier promises that issues like vaccine access would not be meddled with by the current administration.
Kennedy is no big fan of Mcdonald’s. Back in 2024, he sat down with Joe Polish on the latter’s podcast to discuss the food Trump was serving on Air Force One. It was less than complimentary. But, maybe he’s had a change of heart?
“The stuff that he eats is really, like, bad,” RFK explained to the podcaster. “Campaign food is always bad, but the food that goes onto that airplane is, like, just poison. You have a choice between — you don’t have the choice, you’re either given KFC or Big Macs. That’s, like, when you’re lucky, and then the rest of the stuff I consider kind of inedible.”
For a lot of social media users, this all makes sense following those high-profile pictures of Kennedy, Elon Musk, and President Trump in front of a massive McDonald’s meal aboard Air Force One. There was also Coca-Cola in that picture, something else the politician has been wary of in the past. A strange news cycle to be sure.
