Donald Trump brings UK trip forward to day before EU referendum

Donald Trump has bought his plans to visit the UK forward to the day before the EU referendum.

The presumptive Republican nominee will travel to Scotland on 22 June to celebrate the reopening of his Trump Turnberry hotel.

Mr Trump had originally announced he would visit the UK on 24 June, the same day as the result of the EU referendum is announced.

The news will prompt speculation the outspoken businessman-turned-politician may seek to make a last-minute intervention in the debate ahead of the vote, which is seen as Britain's most important in a generation.

He has previously said he supports Brexit, because immigration has been "a horrible thing for Europe".

He told Fox News in May: “I know Great Britain very well. I know, you know, the country very well. I have a lot of investments there.

“I would say that they're better off without it, but I want them to make their own decision."

Although initially appearing unfamiliar with the term "Brexit," he recently told the Hollywood Reporter: "Oh yeah, I think they should leave."

David Cameron has previously said Mr Trump "deserves our respect" for winning the nomination, but declined to withdraw his previous criticism of a call for a ban on Muslims entering the US as "divisive, stupid and wrong".

After visiting his Turnberry resort, he will travel to Aberdeen and then his Doonbeg golf resort in Co Clare, Ireland.

The visit will coincide with US Vice President Joe Biden's trip to Ireland and the result of the EU referendum.

Mr Trump is expected to be officially confirmed as the Republican nominee for the White House at the party's national convention in in July.
