Donald Trump blasts Sadiq Khan as 'incompetent' as he hits back at London mayor over golf criticism... but spells his name wrong

Donald Trump has hit out at Sadiq Khan after the London Mayor criticised the US President for playing golf as the country prepared for Hurricane Dorian.

Spelling his name incorrectly, Mr Trump called Mr Khan "incompetent" and a "terrible mayor" as he condemned London's knife crime rate and claimed people were "afraid to even walk the streets."

It came after Mr Khan mocked the US President for “dealing with a hurricane out on the golf course” over the weekend.

Mr Trump pulled out of a trip to Poland to commemorate the 80th anniversary of the start of World War II to concentrate on Hurricane Dorian, but then played golf at his private club in Virginia.

Mr Trump wrote on Twitter this afternoon: "The incompetent Mayor of London, Sadique Kahn, was bothered that I played a very fast round of golf yesterday. Many Pols exercise for hours, or travel for weeks. Me, I run through one of my courses (very inexpensive). President Obama would fly to Hawaii. Kahn should focus on ”knife crime,” which is totally out of control in London.

Around 20 minutes later he retweeted the comments with the correct spelling of "Sadiq".

"People are afraid to even walk the streets. He is a terrible mayor who should stay out of our business!"

It is the latest in an ongoing row between with the pair that began in 2015 when Mr Khan criticised Mr Trump's presidential campaign pledge to ban Muslims from the US and told the BBC he hoped Mr Trump "loses badly".

On his working visit to London in July 2018, the President claimed Mr Khan had done "a very bad job on terrorism" adding: “I think he has done a bad job on crime, if you look, all of the horrible things going on there, with all of the crime that is being brought in.”

Nearly a year later, Mr Khan approved a giant inflatable Donald Trump baby blimp to fly over London during the President's state visit.

A day before he was due to arrive, Mr Trump compared the mayor to his New York counterpart Bill de Blasio, saying: “I don’t think much of him. I think that he’s the twin of De Blasio, except shorter.”

Minutes before he landed in the UK on Air Force One, Mr Trump described Mr Khan as a "stone cold loser" and "very dumb".

The Mayor's office accused Mr Trump of "childish insults".
