Newlyweds Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce have found themselves at the centre of another intervention from Donald Trump.
The singer, 36, and her NFL player partner, also 36, tied the knot on Friday (03.07.26) night and the White House’s official social media accounts appeared to mock the couple shortly after they announced their marriage at Madison Square Garden in New York.
The US president, 80, while travelling aboard Air Force One to South Dakota ahead of America’s 250th birthday celebrations, took the opportunity to share in the online attention surrounding the high-profile event.
The White House’s official X account posted an edited image of the pink billboards outside Madison Square Garden that had been used to announce the couple’s wedding – but replacing the original message with the words: “Trump is your president”.
The post came minutes after Travis and Taylor revealed their marriage on Friday evening by displaying “JUST T MARRIED!” across the venue’s giant billboard.
The White House accompanied its post with the caption: “IT’S HAPPENED!!!”
Hollywood actor and comedian Adam Sandler officiated the wedding ceremony in front of around 1,000 guests who gathered in New York for the celebration.
The White House later followed up with another image modelled on promotional artwork for Taylor’s record-breaking Eras Tour, replacing the singer with pictures of Trump alongside former presidents George Washington and Abraham Lincoln. The post was captioned: “It’s been a long time coming…”, echoing a lyric Taylor previously used in connection with the Eras Tour.
The latest exchange continues a long-running and highly public public feud between Trump and Taylor, whose Eras Tour became one of the most successful concert tours in history.
The singer, also known for albums including 1989, Midnights and The Tortured Poets Department, has remained one of the most influential figures in popular culture.
Trump’s relationship with Taylor has shifted dramatically over the years.
Around 2012, he posted favourable comments after the singer was selected to co-host the Grammy nominations special and publicly supported her following her split from Conor Kennedy.
The tone changed after Taylor entered political debate during the 2018 midterm elections by endorsing the Democratic challenger to Tennessee senator Marsha Blackburn.
Taylor said Senator Blackburn was “Trump in a wig”.
After learning of the remark, Trump told reporters: “Let’s just say I like Taylor’s music about 25 percent less now, okay?”
The pair’s political differences resurfaced repeatedly in the years that followed.
Asked previously about Taylor’s relationship with Travis, Trump said: “I wish the best for both of them. I hope they enjoy their life, maybe together, maybe not – most likely not.”
During the 2024 presidential campaign, Trump insisted there was “no way” Taylor could endorse his Democrat rivalJoe Biden because he believed he had been “responsible for the Music Modernization Act for Taylor Swift and all other Musical Artists”.
Taylor later endorsed former vice-president Kamala Harris, prompting Trump to post on social media: “I HATE TAYLOR SWIFT!”
In the summer of 2025, Trump again criticised the singer while praising actor Sydney Sweeney.
“Just look at Woke singer Taylor Swift,” Trump wrote. “Ever since I alerted the world as to what she was by saying on TRUTH that I can’t stand her (HATE!) She was booed out of the Super Bowl and became, NO LONGER HOT.”
He added: “Sydney Sweeney, a registered Republican, has the ‘HOTTEST’ ad out there.”
However, Trump struck a more conciliatory tone after Taylor and Travis’ engagement in August 2025.
He said: “I think he’s a great player, I think he’s a great guy, and I think that she’s a terrific person, so I wish them a lot of luck.”
The White House’s latest posts coincided with Trump’s journey to Mount Rushmore to launch festivities marking the 250th anniversary of the United States.
The celebrations are being organised by Freedom 250, the body established by executive order in January 2025 to oversee commemorations for the country’s semiquincentennial.
