Donald Glover has opened up about why he was forced to cancel most of his world last year, revealing he suffered a stroke while also battling a heart condition.
If you recall, Glover — also known by his former stage name Childish Gambino — abandoned his tour just weeks into its launch after announcing he’d gone to hospital in Houston to treat an “ailment”.
It led to Glover postponing and later cancelling the entirety of his remaining dates, which included additional shows in the US as well as slated performances in the UK and Australia.
While Glover didn’t reveal further deets about his ailment at the time, he has now gotten candid about his health struggles while performing at the Camp Flog Gnaw musical festival in LA over the weekend.
“I was doing this world tour,” he recalled to the crowd at the festival, as part of his so-called “‘where have I been’ monologue”.
“I was having lots of fun, really loving seeing you guys out there. I had a really bad pain in my head in Louisiana and I did the show anyway. I couldn’t really see well, so when we went to Houston, I went to the hospital and the doctor was like, ‘You had a stroke’.”
Glover then joked that he was “copying Jamie Foxx” — in reference to the actor’s 2023 stroke — before saying he felt like he was “letting everybody down” by cancelling the tour.
“They say everybody has two lives and the second life starts when you realise you have one,” Glover said.
Glover went on to reveal that while diagnosing his stroke, doctors also found he had a small hole in heart that required him to have surgery twice.

Reflecting on the health struggle, Glover reminded the audience, “You got one life, guys, and I gotta be honest, the life I’ve lived with you guys has been such a blessing.”
Dubbed The New World Tour, Glover’s cancelled 2024 tour was in support of the two albums he released that year, titled Atavista and Bando Stone & the New World.
Prior to the cancellation, the tour was set to bring him to Aussie shores with shows in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and Perth throughout February, 2025.
While he has laid low in the months since, Glover was one of the top-billed acts at Camp Flog Gnaw, a festival created by Tyler, the Creator.
Doechii, Kali Uchis, A$AP Rocky and Earl Sweatshirt also performed at the event.

For all those curious, Glover has not yet announced whether he’ll resume the tour and finally make it back Down Under, but we’re just glad he is on the mend!
