Donald Glover could return to Star Wars as Lando in Disney+ series

Reports suggest that Donald Glover could reprise the role of young Lando Calrissian in a Star Wars spin-off series.

The actor previously played the role in the middlingly received 2018 film Solo: A Star Wars Story.

A Star Wars podcast called Kessell Run Transmissions has claimed that Glover is gearing up for his own series, which would stream on Disney’s recently launched streaming service, Disney+.

Disney are yet to confirm anything regarding the project.

It wouldn’t be the first time such a deal was made. Ewan McGregor is set to star in his own Disney+ series, focussed on the character of Obi-Wan Kenobi.

Billy Dee Williams starred as Lando in the original Star Wars films, returning for last year’s Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Solo star Alden Ehrenreich, who played a young Han Solo in the Disney origin story, also recently suggested that he could be involved in a continuation of Solo.

Whether this could be in the form of a Glover-fronted Disney+ series or some other kind of project is unknown.

The 2018 film left the door open for a sequel, with Emilia Clarke’s character gaining promotion in the criminal organisation of Darth Maul.

However, the lacklustre critical response and box office performance – relative to other Star Wars films – threw any potential sequel into doubt.

Alongside his successful career as a musician (under the moniker Childish Gambino), Glover has starred in a number of TV series before, most famously Community and Atlanta, the latter of which he also created.
