Donald Cerrone is mired in the worst skid of his fighting career, but said not long after his latest setback that he’s not nearing the end of the line.
“Hell yes Everyone I came to throw down and do what I love!!,” Cerrone posted on his Instagram account. “I had a blast and I’m not going anywhere. See y’all again soon”
Cerrone (36-15 MMA, 23-12 UFC) dropped a unanimous decision to Anthony Pettis (23-10 MMA, 10-9 UFC) to close out the main card at UFC 249 at VyStar Veterans Memorial Arena in Jacksonville, Fla. Their fight was a rematch from a bout more than seven years earlier won by Pettis with a first-round TKO.
This time around, the fight went the distance and Cerrone had his fair share of observers in the camp that he won the fight. Roughly half of the analysts tracked by MMADecisions.com scored the bout for Cerrone.
The 37-year-old Cerrone returned to welterweight earlier this year for a big opportunity against former featherweight and lightweight champion Conor McGregor, but was stopped with a 40-second TKO.
Cerrone’s four straight setbacks have come to some of the best in the world: Tony Ferguson and Justin Gaethje, who meet in the UFC 249 main event for the interim lightweight title; McGregor; and now former lightweight champion Pettis.
