Donald and Shelly Sterling buy another multimillion-dollar home in the 90210

Dec. 18--Former Los Angeles Clippers owners Donald and Shelly Sterling have bought a home in Beverly Hills for about $3.1 million and put it up for lease at $11,500 a month.

The Mediterranean Revival-style house, built in 1932, features such Old World details as decorative and Saltillo tile, wrought iron finishes and a step-down living room topped by cathedral-style ceilings.

Within the 4,078 square feet of interiors is a formal dining room, a den with a wet bar and an updated kitchen with an island/breakfast bar. A total of five bedrooms and 4.5 bathrooms are found across two floors.

Outdoors, hedged grounds include a flagstone patio, a courtyard and a swimming pool with a spa. A street-facing balcony extends off the second level of the home.

The house came on the market in July for $3.295 million, records show.

Steven Geller of Coldwell Banker Residential Brokerage represented both sides of the transaction. The exact sale price was $3,092,381, according to the Multiple Listing Service.

Donald Sterling, who filed for divorce from his wife of 60 years earlier this year, typically employs a long-term buy-and-hold strategy with his holdings, which have grown to more than 100 properties in the greater Los Angeles area.

Other acquisitions made by the 81-year-old in 2015 include the purchase of a $18.382-million estate and a $5.16-million home, both in Beverly Hills.

Shelly Sterling wrested control of the Clippers from her husband last year and eventually sold the team to former Microsoft executive Steve Ballmer for $2 billion.

Subsequent attempts by Donald Sterling to undo the sale in court have been rejected.
