Captain Tom has inspired many people to do many extraordinary things since he raised over £32 million for the NHS.
None more so than 25-year-old Joshua Eastwood who decided to take on the challenge of running a marathon every day in May to celebrate the end of lockdown and raise money for a good cause.
As an avid golfer and a self-professed “non-runner”, Joshua hopes to complete 31 marathons before the end of the month.
He said: “I don’t really like running but the more I do it, the better I feel and I wanted to challenge myself and celebrate the end of lockdown, while raising money for Cancer Research and North of Ireland Children to Lapland Days To Remember Trust.
“It’s been a tough year for many people for many different reasons and I hope this may inspire others to raise if I can do something so out of my comfort zone, then so can they.”
Joshua’s determination to make a change in his life while benefiting charities who have been hit hard during the pandemic has been taking the well-known fitness target of Couch to 5K to an extreme - Joshua will be going Couch to 1308km in 12 weeks.
He has been documenting each day on an Instagram account dedicated to his challenge called @a_marathon_everyday_in_may.
He’s on day eight, having clocked up 26.6 miles each day this week, equating to a total so far of 212.8 miles.
The Donaghadee man has raised an amazing £4,280 so far, after only a week of his challenge and is hoping to continue raising money for these good causes as the month goes on.
