'Don't watch Barkley' - Chelsea fans have a cheeky response to Billy Gilmour comments

Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour has spoke of his desire to learn from his Blues teammates - a statement that has provoked a cheeky response from some of the Stamford Bridge faithful.

The midfielder played 70 minutes of the 2-1 Carabao Cup defeat against Manchester United on Wednesday night, it was just his second start for the senior team, after he played the full 90 minutes against Grimsby Town in the previous round. A game which the Blues won 7-1.

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has earned praise for his use of young players this season, and Gilmour has said that the experience of first team football can only be a good thing.

"I learned a lot," said Gilmour of the defeat against Manchester United (via Chelseafc.com). "It was a massive step for me, and for Marc [Guehi] as well. It was a totally different match to Grimsby. Coming into this game we had to be on it, and we thought we played okay.

"I was playing against McTominay who is a Scotland international. I wanted to put myself up against him and I thought I was okay against him.

"That’s the standard I want to be at really. It would be a big moment for me to represent my country at full level, but I just need to keep doing what I’m doing.

"Hopefully I get another opportunity at Chelsea this season, but obviously there are a lot of a great midfielders in the team, Jorginho, Kovacic, great players. I am looking up to them and taking parts of their game and trying to put them into my game in training."

However, fans seem reluctant for the youngster to learn off a certain midfielder in the squad.

Gilmour is highly thought of at Stamford Bridge, and the 18-year-old made his Premier League debut for the club in the 2-2 draw with Sheffield United back in August.
