Don't Trash Our Future: Locals vent their frustration after entire sofa set dumped on road

Midlothian locals shared their frustration today after an entire sofa set was left dumped at the side of the road.

As part of Edinburgh Live 's ongoing Don't Trash Our Future campaign aimed at ending littering and fly-tipping in the area, we are currently calling out the disgraceful dumping that occurs across Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The latest incident of this shocking dumping occurred near Penicuik on Friday, when the two couches and side table were recklessly left on Moor Road.

The black leather suite was left blatantly at a small lay by at the side of the country road and was propped up against a fence, with the two other items strewn at the side.

After one local man posted pictures of the couch online, other residents instantly vented their frustration at the irresponsible littering.

One user said: "Such a sin, I'm sure someone somewhere would be thankful for them, but no, they would rather fly tip it rather than give it for free."

Another local commented: "Disgraceful behaviour!"

From the beginning of lockdown, there has been a large number of fly-tipping incidents in the Lothians which has continued despite dumps reopening.

Over the last few months, items such as beds, cabinets, mattresses and even over 100 car tyres have been found dumped in woodland areas.

Since the 'Don't Trash Our Future' campaign launched, it has received huge support from the local community as well as cross party backing from a selection of MSPs.
