As prices on everyday items soar, it’s nice to know where you can still go to get a good deal and save money. Despite the fact that Walmart is one of the biggest mega-retailers available, it still maintains its roots as a discount retailer, offering affordable prices on a wide variety of everyday goods ranging from home and furniture to electronics, apparel and groceries.

If you’re looking to do your shopping at Walmart, it’s important to plan ahead and consider the best days and times to visit which can help ensure you’re making the most of both your time and your money. To help you strategize, below are the best and worst days to stop at Walmart, as well as a few money- and time-saving strategies to implement on your next trip.

Worst Days To Shop at Walmart: Saturdays and Sundays

Though there is no exact science, savvy shoppers have found that certain days are better than others when it comes to shopping at Walmart.

Many major retailers become busier and more crowded on the weekends, and Walmart’s no different. Given this, it’s best to avoid shopping on Saturdays or Sundays if you can. The worst day to shop at Walmart is generally considered to be Saturday, particularly during the peak hours of 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. On the weekends, and specifically on Saturday, you’ll be battling a busy store, long lines and possibly product shortages.

Best Days To Shop at Walmart: Tuesdays and Wednesdays

The best days to shop at Walmart are usually in the middle of the week — like Tuesdays and Wednesdays. During these days, stores are less crowded, resulting in a more comfortable and efficient shopping experience. Furthermore, Walmart consistently runs “Flash Deals,” which they often roll out midweek, so it’s also a great time to get a jumpstart on your savings.

Other Strategies To Save Money and Time at Walmart

In addition to planning your shopping trip around certain days of the week, there are other ways to maximize your money and time. Here are some of the big ones:

  • Shop at the beginning of the month, as that is often when you can find newly discounted items and clearance deals.
  • If you are a frequent Walmart shopper, try a Walmart+ Membership to get perks that non-members don’t get, including free home delivery, free shipping on all orders, fuel rebates and more.
  • Use the cash back feature that Walmart offers on select purchases. For example, the retailer has up to 5% cash back on travel-related goods for members.
  • Take advantage of price matching on items sold storewide. This might help you save money by ensuring you get the best price possible. You could also secure additional savings by using the Walmart Savings Catcher app.
  • Try shopping late at night because weekday nights in particular tend to be a great time to score some deals and shop without many people around.
