Don’t read into Von Miller’s offseason weight gain

Denver Broncos players returned to the team’s facility Tuesday for the start of offseason conditioning and outside linebacker Von Miller held a press conference.

During his presser, Miller mentioned that he played at about 236 pounds last year and he’s up to about 245 pounds this year, a difference of nearly 10 pounds. Miller seemed to indicate that it wasn’t a big change.

“I was 238 or 236 [last year],” Miller said. “It’s not bad, but I want to be 245 or 248. I’m right back at that now. Being 238 last year, I felt like that was a good weight for me. I played in the Super Bowl at 236, so I felt like that was a good weight for me. I just experimented a little bit.”

Miller was then asked several questions about his weight and why he made the switch. The outside linebacker seemed to downplay the newsworthiness of the topic.

“It’s not really a big deal. We’ve gotten five questions on it,” Miller said with a smile. “It’s not really a big deal to be 245 this year.”

If Miller doesn’t think it’s a big deal, we should probably believe him.
