Don't Let the Term Turtleneck Fool You Because These Tops Are Designed for Warmer Weather

Not for cold winter days. (Credit: Courtesy of The Frankie Shop)

Certain clothing is relegated to certain seasons. Those ginormous puffer coats aren't exactly spring-friendly. You wouldn't sport a tank top in the middle of a blizzard, either. At least we hope you wouldn't. Then there's the winter staple, the turtleneck. Actually, the high-neck tops can work in other seasons. Yes, warm weather turtlenecks do exist.

Turtlenecks that fit into this category are the short-sleeve and even sleeveless versions. FYI: Occasionally you'll see them labeled as roll neck, but it's essentially the same thing. Just like their cold weather counterparts, these toppers are great for layering. Especially as we slowly inch toward spring. You can slip them on under everything from a cozy sweater to a lightweight jacket that you wear under a heavier, wool coat.

Once things begin to heat up, you can start rocking them solo. Tuck your favorites into jeans or skirts, whether the latter are mini, midi or maxi. Come summer, sport them with denim cutoffs. If you're feeling really brave, incorporate one into a no-pants look you feel comfortable flaunting in public.

There's a surprising amount of variety under the warm weather turtleneck umbrella. You have your cotton numbers ideal for comfort. Next come the cashmere and sweater iterations. We even found a sleeveless bodysuit with a zipper collar so you can control the ventilation. Which is ideal when we're moving from one season to another.

When it comes to cost, you don't have to spend a fortune. Almost half of our top picks are under $100. If you feel like going designer, Diesel's logo-boasting cashmere turtleneck is a cost-effective way to indulge. Missoni's turtleneck may not have a logo, but its colorful zigzag pattern makes the designer instantly recognizable. The aforementioned bodysuit comes courtesy of Alaïa so you know it calls for dropping a bit of cash. Despite the high price tag, there aren't many in stock so act now.

Scroll down to discover the most stylish warm weather turtlenecks around. You'll be amazed how many different ways and how often you can wear them.
