KOTTAYAM: Why was my son brutally murdered? He wouldn’t even utter a word that could hurt someone, said a teary-eyed Vinodini, 71, the mother of slain BJP leader Renjith Sreenivasan. She had returned home from the temple where she offered a puja for her son.
“While climbing the stairs to the first floor, I heard the sound of someone forcibly opening the gate and coming in. They had daggers, swords and hammers. They pushed open the door and broke the glass of the table in the room with the hammer. Ranjith came out of his room on hearing the sound. They hit him on the head with a hammer and he fell down, she said.
“The miscreants removed his dhoti and hacked him. When I ran towards them crying, they pushed me down,” she said. “Ranjith’s wife Lisha came running from the kitchen and they pushed her way and she fell down. When his younger daughter Hridya came out crying ‘Acha’, the miscreants threatened her with swords. They threatened me by pointing the sword at my neck. By that time they had brutally hacked my son several times,” she said.
Her younger son Abhijith was sleeping in the room on the first floor. When he came running down on hearing the sound, the miscreants had escaped. “The door was opened at 6.15am when the elder daughter Bhagya had gone for tuition class,” she said.
