Oscar Isaac is talking about coming back to Star Wars again, and his latest comments are the realest thing we’ve heard today. The Poe Dameron actor has a massive interview in GQ this week, as they celebrate their 30th Anniversary Men of the Year issue. Isaac was asked about climbing back into a Star Wars cockpit again and had a pretty reasonable request. The Frankenstein star is open to a return. But, Disney would have to get its ducks in a row with some of the political mishaps they’ve had in the last few months. Namely, that disaster with Jimmy Kimmel getting suspended, and then reinstated a few days later.
Isaac told the magazine, “Yeah. I mean, I’d be open to it, although right now I’m not so open to working with Disney. But if they can kinda figure it out and, you know, not succumb to fascism, that would be great.” ( The rider is quick to note that this interview was conducted right after Kimmel was suspended, and that resolved itself 4 days afterwards.)
It sounds like the Sequel Trilogy star was in the same boat as a lot of fans when Disney made the decision to put Kimmel on the bench. The reported fan outcry led to millions of canceled subscriptions for Disney+. And, faced with that kind of reaction, the people in charge quickly reversed course to get Kimmel back on the air. That entire situation is complicated but we broke down what the FCC’s role and other mergers had to do with that entire fiasco before.
Oscar Isaac addresses Star Wars return

Earlier in the GQ interview, Isaac talked about his infamous quote about returning to Star Wars if he needed another house. Our friend knows people remember that zinger. He sounds like there’s some regret about just yapping in front of microphones sometimes.
“Yeah. That was a real likable quote. Jesus Christ,” Isaac said. “Y’know, people ask you things, you say stuff, you don’t really think about it that much. I said a slightly dickish thing.”
He also didn’t pour any water at all on a possible return? Hope springs eternal on the old Information Super Highway. Isaac explained, “But if that happens, then yeah, I’d be open to having a conversation about a galaxy far away. Or any number of other things.” So, clearly there’s been a softening for him over the last few years. With Daisy Ridley’s Rey movie still happening, it would make a lot of sense to see the Sequel trio back together. But, until we get an official announcement, we’re all just dreaming together.
Notoriously, it’s going to be hard to get John Boyega in there for any kind of reunion. But, Hollywood is nothing if not unpredictable. Look around at this landscape we have right now, and you’ll see that reconciliation isn’t beyond the realm of possibility. At this point, discussions about the sequel trilogy outnumber the actual movies themselves. Some of us here at The Mary Sue are old enough to remember how people reacted to the Prequel Trilogy once upon a time. Don’t tell me anything’s impossible.
