Don't give up the day job, Perez

We didn't forget to tell the world that celebrity blogger Perez Hilton was rumoured to have a new job in A&R. No, we just hoped that if we closed our eyes and ignored it for long enough, it might stop it being true.

But after being touted by a major label, which, frankly, should know better, it looks like Hilton may soon be in charge of what we listen to.

Even though Hilton, real name Mario Lavandeira, hinted in a recent interview that Warner Bros had come to their senses and realised doodling snot on pictures of soap actors does not a talent scout make, the blogger remained resolute.

"I'll do it myself. I want to shake up the music business," he told Angeleno magazine.

What a lovely thought, but how exactly? "I wanna get people to buy music again. Maybe I'll give CDs away for five bucks, or create interesting partnerships with companies. Look at what that Apple ad did for Feist. We'll do cool partnerships with Wal-Mart or Target. Whatever it takes."

Ignoring the fact that Hilton clearly thinks "charging $5" is the same as "giving away", or that Wal-Mart and "cool" should never exist in the same sentence, his new ideas have impressed us. Putting music on adverts? Commercial partnerships? We can only salute this guy's ability to think outside the box. Music industry, consider yourself shook up.
